Know where you are going before you get into a vehicle. This goes along with the topic of researching your destination. Whether it is simply a cab or Uber ride between the airport and your hotel, or between your hotel and an excursion, always map out the route ahead of time, so you will know approximately how long it will take in current traffic conditions and the direction you will be headed. Pay attention in the vehicle to ensure the driver is headed the most direct way to your destination. Put your destination into the maps app on your phone (if possible) so that you can track things en route and be alerted if for some reason the driver deviates off course. At the very least, this situational awareness will help save you from overpaying for an unnecessarily long route, and it could also alert you to danger if the driver is taking you somewhere to harm you.
